Staten Island New York In-ground Pools

In-ground pools can be a fabulous home improvement project, one that you and your family should get a lot of enjoyment and fun out of. Many people prefer in-ground pools over above ground pools because of all the extra benefits, but there are some things you should know and understand before you decide to have an in-ground pool installed. Pools have come a long way since they first became available. They can come in many shapes, sizes, styles, colors, and you can add a wide variety of features and accessories. Having this type of pool installed is a lot more complex and time consuming than simply putting up a pool above the ground.

To install a pool in the ground, a lot of planning must be done before the project can get underway. This is not a do it yourself project, so unless you are a contractor or a professional pool installer, hire the professionals to get a quality job. Determine what size you want your pool to be, the depth of both the deep and shallow ends, what color you want for the liner, and what extras and accessories you will want in the pool. All aspects should be considered and worked out in the early stages since once the construction and installation is started it is a lot harder to change things. Do you want just one set of steps or more? How many jets do you want? Have you always dreamed of a vanishing edge pool, or a waterfall which rains down on a corner of the pool? All of these and much more is possible when you have an in-ground pool installed. Any required building permits and inspection arrangements must also be taken care of during the planning process. An inspection is usually done to ensure the pool is safe for use and does not pose any safety risks.

The first step in the installation process is to start the excavation. Heavy equipment will come in and remove the earth where your
new pool will be located. The excavation will be shallower on one end and deeper on the other. This excavation is the rough outline of the pool. Once the dig is completed and the excavation is the proper size and depth, the wall must be installed and put up. The framing and bracing must be installed for the next step of the process. This is the framework for the liner, and will prevent problems with your pool which can be caused by unstable dirt and earth. After these steps are completed, it is time to move on to the needed plumbing. This includes the pipes, connectors, valves, and other components.

After the basic installation of the framework and plumbing is done, it is time to trowel the bottom of the excavation to create a smooth surface without any lumps or dips. This will allow the liner to sit smoothly and evenly across the bottom, so your pool has a flat and even floor to walk on. Once the entire floor has been troweled smooth, the liner installation can start. The liner of the pool is laid out and attached to the walls and frame of the in-ground pool. Once the liner is laid out in place, it is securely fastened and pulled snug, so that there is a tight fit between the floor and frame of the pool and the liner. Once the liner is in place the entire interior pool surface will be smoothed down again, to ensure no air pockets or bubbles are under the lining to cause problems once the pool is filled with water.

After the pool is completely installed, a concrete patio or deck is poured around the top rim of the pool. This serves more than one purpose. The deck covers up the small amount of frame that sticks above the ground, plus the patio makes a great place to lay in the sun or just lounge around your pool. The entire process usually does not take long, a week to ten days at the most, unless the pool you are having installed is very elaborate and contains a large number of built in accessories. You can also choose between vinyl liners and gunite liners for your pool, depending on your budget, preferences, and maintenance choices.

Having an
in-ground pool installed can offer you and your family many great benefits. Even if you live in the northern areas, a pool can really change your life and lifestyle. One benefit from a built in pool at home is the exercise you will get while simply enjoying yourself. Swimming is a great way to get and stay fit, and with a pool in your own backyard you and your family will have plenty of opportunities to get exercise in a way that is enjoyable and easy to stick with. Exercise can get boring if it becomes routine and is not fun, but when you have an in-ground pool you can exercise at your convenience and stay fit and healthy.

An in-ground pool can be a great place to hold get-togethers and pool parties, so you can spend more time with your friends and family. With this party prop in your yard you will never here the phase I can't make it. Your pool will be an instant success, and your parties will be well attended. If you have children, the enjoyment they have and the peace and quiet you will get with an in-ground pool is amazing. This project can bring a lot of happiness to your life. Another fabulous benefit of having one of these pools is the relaxation and stress relief benefit. Floating and soaking in your new pool will help you relax after a hard stressful day, giving you a peaceful and calming feeling. When you have an in-ground pool, you can use it anytime you want, day or night. Imagine how romantic swimming together at night can be, with the stars and moon in the sky and the pool lights dimmed. Inground pools have a lot to offer, and can be a great way to improve your home and life at the same time.

Swimming Pools, Above Ground or In Ground

Are you thinking of putting a swimming pool in the backyard but can’t decide whether to go with one that is in the ground or above the ground? Are you confused about all the types available and unsure which to purchase? Swimming continues to be a popular family recreational activity and more and more people are choosing to put a pool in their backyard because it is enjoyed not just by children but by people of all ages.

The many
types of pools and equipment that are available can be overwhelming when you start looking for which one to buy, so why not look at all the alternatives, pros and cons so you can decide for yourself? Although considered a luxury for many, backyard pools can be relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain depending on the style and the equipment that you get. It is important to understand that you need to maintain the pool to ensure safety and cleanliness. All of these factors should be taken into consideration, but the bottom line is that a swimming pool can be a beautiful and fun investment for you, your family and friends.

The first thing you need to think about is what type of pool do you want? An in ground pool will cost more and many would say that they are aesthetically more attractive although above ground pools have come a long way since they were first introduced many years ago. In ground pools also should be installed by professionals as their skills are required to ensure that there are no structural problems while an above ground pool could be done by the homeowner himself.

Cost will also be a factor in your decision that will be affected by not only whether it is above or in the ground, but the size and shape of the pool have to be considered. An
in ground pool can be built for $20,000 to $40,000 but if you add a lot of extras it can go as high as $200,000 if money is not a concern. In contrast, an above ground pool can cost as little as $1000 up to $8000 with the required equipment of a pump, filter and ladder. Being easier to assemble, they are also portable and can go with you if you move to another location.

Other considerations are what features you will have in the pool – will there be a spa that is attached or separate? Do you want a waterfall or fountain or other aesthetics that will add to its beauty (and its cost)? If your pool is made of gunite or fiberglass the price will be higher than one that has a vinyl liner instead. Gunite is actually a mixture of sprayed concrete that provides an extra coating for the floor and walls of the pool. Fiberglass is pre-made so it does not require a framing structure.

Surfaces for your pool are another decision that you need to make. You can choose from plaster that is usually white although some mix quartz or marble to add color. Porcelain or ceramic tiles are popular and many times are used as accents or trims in decorative designs and colors. Pebble finishes provide another option in many color variations and styles.

You also need to think about the time it will take to build a pool and in many places the season of the year will be a consideration especially with the excavation and construction materials required. An in ground pool cannot be built where there are any existing underground pipes, wiring or other systems that might interfere with the pool  installation.

Above ground pools are easier to install because they don’t have the excavation that is not only disruptive and dirty, but more costly. They can be situated on top of the grass which is considered ideal or on concrete and sometimes have a protective pad between the bottom of the pool and the surface it sits upon.  They have a structural frame that is usually made of galvanized steel that comes in different heights and is usually in blue, white or gray. It is recommended that you get one that resists corrosion to maintain its look and to last longer. For those opting to install an above ground pool themselves, the pool will come with instructions but if you are not sure of yourself, you should hire someone to help you.

There are other costs to consider when
adding a swimming pool to your backyard whether it is above ground or in ground. With any pool it is important to also consider the ongoing maintenance costs of pool chemicals and the equipment required to keep the pool clean – or have someone else come on a regular basis to perform this activity. There could be unexpected landscaping and lighting costs, particularly if you put a pool in the ground and disrupt the area during excavation. Any pool is required to have a fence around its perimeter to ensure the safety of children and others from falling in accidentally – or climbing up into an above ground pool.

Pool insurance is something that should be invested in to protect yourself in the event of any accidents but your insurance company will know if you need to add liability insurance to your policy. In climates where pools cannot be used year round, the pool will need to be covered and in some places drained for the winter months and then reopened in the spring in anticipation for summer. These are additional costs that most people don’t think about.

If you have considered all the costs and have determined that a pool is still something that you and your family want to indulge in, then you should proceed with one that meets your needs and your budget. Ultimately a backyard swimming pool is a great way to entertain the family and friends – and bring beauty and joy to all who have the pleasure of enjoying their backyard swimming pool!

Manhattan and Brooklyn Hot Tubs

Hot tubs are one of the latest in popular luxuries when it comes to home improvements and remodeling, and is it any wonder? These fixtures offer a number of benefits, and are a terrific way to soak and relax all the stress of the day away. A hot tub can be installed almost anywhere, because these tubs require very little space. They can be installed inside or out, depending on your preferences. Many people who live in areas where it snows want these tubs installed outside, because in the winter the hot water and cold air and snow make a fantastic contrast. You can build a deck around your tub, enclose it in a gazebo, or do something entirely different to make your hot tub unique and one of a kind.

Hot tubs come in all different sizes, shapes, colors, and styles. They range from two or four person models with just a few jets and seats to large tubs which can fit ten people or more and come with a number of seats and positions, as well as numerous jets. There are two main
types of hot tubs, and these are portable or built in. Portable hot tubs can be moved, and they are normally in a self contained cabinet which holds the plumbing and wiring. Built in units are the ones which require plumbing and electrical hookups to be run. No matter what kind of hot tub you are looking for, you should be able to find it quickly and easily.

Hot tubs do require some maintenance, but this chore is small when compared to all the enjoyment you will get from them. Proper maintenance is important, because hot tubs can be the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and for water balance problems. The water in your hot tub is always heated, and this can also cause a change in the pH of the water and also of the chemical composition. The filter is an important aspect of your hot tub. This device filters out any debris and keeps the water in your tub clean and clear. If you do not maintain and change the filter as needed, you could end up having to replace a burnt out water pump from the filter becoming clogged. Chemicals may need to be added periodically, depending on the specific spa, and an ozone generator can also help keep the water clean, sanitary, and balanced.

A
hot tub has many benefits for both your mind and your body. After a hard day at work or even a grueling exercise workout, soaking in a hot tub for half an hour can alleviate pain and soreness, and help promote healing and growth in your muscles. This is why so many professional athletes use a hot tub after competition. The hot water relaxes stiff and overworked muscles, helping them to heal faster and feel better. The heat also promotes blood flow to these areas, bringing critical oxygen. After soaking in one of these tubs for half an hour to an hour, it is impossible to feel anxious or stressed. Between the buoyancy of the water, the heat, and the steam, you are as relaxed as you will ever be, both physically and mentally, when you climb out of the jacuzzi. This can be a great way to relax and get ready for bed at night, or just to get rid of pent up stress.

Many people believe that owning their own private hot tub is a luxury that is not affordable or in their budget range, but this is no longer the case. These tubs can be found at times for less than one thousand dollars, making them a terrific bargain. The accessories and amenities that can be included with a hot tub are numerous, and can really change the way you unwind after a long day. There are a number of extras that you can include to make your hot tub the perfect spa experience. There are floating trays, ashtrays, and other items that can be used in the hot tub to hold drinks or your cigarette. Small inflatable pillows can add comfort and cushioning to your head while you are reclining in the water, and a waterproof radio can provide enjoyment or a romantic interlude, depending on what you are planning. When it comes to a hot tub, there is no limit to what you can add, install, or do.

Your
hot tub can be as simple or as luxurious as you want to make it. There are heated towel warmers that can be added and installed, so that all you have to do is open the cabinet on the side of the tub and you have fresh warm clean towels waiting to wrap you in softness and comfort. Lotions and oils created specifically for hot tubs can be added to the water or your skin, for a soothing and relaxing aromatherapy treatment while you soak. Some people install a small refrigerator near their hot tub, so that ice and cold drinks are only a few steps away. Waterproof playing cards and floating table surfaces will allow you to relax and play cards while soaking. Installing a bar, either just for drinks or for snacks and drinks, can be a terrific way to enjoy your tub frequently. A stereo or sound system can be set up, as long as it is done safely, so that you can enjoy music while you are enjoying your spa. There are special pillows you can purchase which fill with water, so that they sink and can be used under the water as a backrest or seat cushion. You can purchase hand held jets which attach to the hot tub, so you can direct the jets and soothing massage where you need it the most. Owning a hot tub does not have to be a luxury and they have gone down in price significantly in the last few years. Now almost any budget can fit one of these great tubs in it. With all the options and accessories available, you can customize your hot tub to meet your unique individual needs.

Pros and Cons of Top Rated New York Hot Tubs

Hot tubs are becoming more and more popular as a great way to relax and as an enhancement to homes, backyards or gardens. Should you put one in the ground or get one of the many above ground models that are available? That depends on a lot of factors – not the least of which that in the ground hot tubs or spas are more costly than above the ground styles. With many options and styles to choose from, it is difficult to decide which one is the right one for you.

The least expensive type is an inflatable hot tub that will cost approximately $800 to $2000 for most models. Besides its low cost, the advantage of an inflatable hot tub is that it is portable and can be installed just about anywhere – in the yard, on a balcony or on the patio. It also does not need any special electric or plumbing work for installation and it can be easily stored when not in use or if you live in a climate where you need to take it inside in the winter. The drawbacks are that it usually loses heat fairly quickly because it uses a blower system that circulates air in the water so it should only be used for short periods of time of no more than 30 minutes. It does not come with many amenities or additional seating options and it is not as sturdy or long lasting as other types of hot tubs as these are usually made of various combinations of plastic, nylon and vinyl making them not as durable as some of the other options available. These hot tubs are available from many retailers

Wooden hot tubs are still affordable at approximately $1500 to $7000 depending on size and features. With their rustic look they fit into yards and blend well with gardens or woodsy areas making them aesthetically pleasing. They also offer three options for heating: electric, gas fired or wood heated depending on your needs. They are also built solidly with woods of redwood, cedar or teak that make them not only attractive but fragrant as well.  The disadvantages are that they are harder and more costly to maintain with the wood frame and because of their rather simplistic styling these hot tubs don’t offer many seating options.  Most of the models do not have jets and offer few options. As with other above ground hot tubs it is recommended that these be placed on a stable surface like concrete for proper installation. These hot tubs are usually found in do-it-yourself kits or from specialty dealers.

Acrylic hot tubs cost more at $3,000 to $10,000 but they offer more options and versatile features. Acrylic hot tubs are the most popular and offer the largest range of options and though they are considered portable they are difficult to move. However, the disadvantages are that they usually require more repair work or plumbing and electrical work than other above ground hot tubs so you can expect high electric bills of approximately $50 per month with regular use. Trying to install one yourself is next to impossible although companies will say that you can but you should probably pay to have a professional put it in for you. They should be installed on top of stable surface such as a patio or a concrete pad and they need a special electrical outlet. These hot tubs can be purchased from any one of hundreds of retailers everywhere.

In ground hot tubs or spas cost $5,000 and up depending on the features, size and materials selected but they usually add to your property value by adding beauty to the landscaping making it more aesthetically pleasing. In ground spas usually require more maintenance than acrylic so they are the most expensive not only to build but to maintain as well. Because in ground spas require excavation along with electrical and plumbing work, they are more costly to install. Usually made of gunite, which is concrete that is applied by an air gun, many spas have decorative tile trim or are entirely surfaced with ceramic or porcelain tile or other materials which not only adds to their beauty but to the value as well. Although more expensive to maintain and run, in ground spas will generally heat faster and retain the heat longer than other types of hot tubs. Generally these types of spas have bench seats or step type options.

Other considerations when deciding on a hot tub is the size. Obviously - the smaller the tub the lower the cost. You can get two person hot tubs that will take up less space and is ideal for a couple. If you have a large family or like to entertain then you might want a hot tub that will hold more people. You can purchase them to hold up to eight people or you can build an in ground one that will hold as many as you want.

Some hot tubs have a lay down seat that is called a lounger but a hot tub without the lounger will hold more people. Other features to consider are the number of jets you want and the size of the pumps or even number of pumps. You can add railings to make it easy to get in and out and add pillows or other features. The more options you select, the more costly your purchase will be.

Maintenance is another thing to think about. If you have the hot tub underneath trees you need to think about falling debris or if it is out in the open on a deck without protection will there be too much sun or wind? You need to consider how much privacy you want and you need to think about safety and ease of getting in and out. Other factors to consider are filling and draining the hot tub and making that as easy as possible.

Once you have decided on what
type of hot tub you want, then you can look forward to enjoying many relaxing days and evenings with family and friends in your new hot tub.
