Is Your Water Safe To Drink?

Are you concerned that the water supplied by your cities supplier is contaminated and unsafe to drink? Chances are that even if you dislike the taste of your tap water it is safe to drink but it may not be up to the level of quality you want or desire. Many companies wanting to sell you water treatment equipment will offer a free test to determine if there are specific containments in your water but these tests are usually just a marketing tool. If you really want to know what is in your water, you need to have your water tested by an individual testing company.

Independent water testing laboratories are available to test your water and will provide you with an unbiased report of what is in your water. There are many private water testing firms that will come to your home and test your water. If you have specific concerns with your water and want to confirm your suspicions, you will find a variety of testing firms ready and willing to report on your water.

If you decide to hire a lab to test your water, make sure you work with a certified and approved lab. You want to contact the laboratory and ask for samples of proper sample containers and the specific instructions on where and when to take the sample. You may need to arrange for pickup or delivery of the water samples as well. Regional labs may provide a mail-order option. If you choose to mail your samples to a lab, make sure you seal your water containers completely and follow all the directions for mail in and ship overnight or express delivery. Bacteria, that is living in your water can die very quickly and may not be detectible if you choose to mail your sample to a lab that is long distance from your home.

In-home water testing kits are starting to appear on the market as well. Inexpensive kits may only detect one or two different containments and these kits will not be able to give you the full spectrum report that an inspector which works directly with the lab will provide you. In home water testing kits are great to use if you have a specific containment or issue that you want to monitor your water for. If you start your water testing plan with an in home kit, you may want to obtain assistance in interpreting the readings and results from the testing.

If you have or believe you have a water problem, your first step to correction is to test the water and determine the extent of your problem. Before you rush out and spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on water treatment products for you home, have your water tested by a certified independent inspector using an approved lab and confirm there is in fact a problem. You may determine the best method of action is to purchase water or install water treatment products and or systems in your home.
