The kitchen is the most functional space of the home and the biggest concern when it comes to the look of the space; because of the great deal of time spent in the kitchen and because it is the room visited first by prospective home buyers, the interior decoration of the kitchen is important in completing any home.
A kitchen’s decor is usually dependent on the appliances that take up all the space. While it is not often possible to design the design of a kitchen from scratch, if you are renovating the entire kitchen, appliances and all, a good plan will take into a account the overall feel and atmosphere that will be created by the appliances and set up you choose.
For most of us, our kitchen interior decoration will have to take into a account a few fixed factors such as the refrigerator, oven and other appliances. Our design should be congruent with the style of our appliances. Therefore, a modern style refrigerator will call for more modern styled counter tops and cabinets, while an older looking appliance would be made to look out of place if all the other elements in the kitchen were in a modern style. Also, when installing cabinets or redesigning the flooring, the needs and limitations of the previously existing fixtures must be kept in mind.
The floor of a kitchen should never be covered with a carpet. If you have a home with a carpeted kitchen, the best thing you can do to increase the value of the structure is to get rid of the carpet. Tile or linoleum are really the best options, although a hardwood floor in the kitchen is also attractive. Tile patterns are usually simple, such as the traditional black and white diamond pattern.
Counter tops and cabinetry are the areas where the most fun can be had with a kitchen’s interior design. Counter spaces are where the bulk of the kitchen work is done, so it can be a challenge to balance the kitchens functional needs with your interior design fancies. Moreover, well designed and attractive cabinetry can vastly improve the look and value of a kitchen. New cabinets are also relatively cheap to install, as it is only wood work and does not often require any major alterations to the structure.
The paint job on a kitchen is usually limited to white or off-white. However, many modern kitchens are incorporating tile work onto the walls, as well as stucco or art deco paint schemes. The kitchen, more so than the living room even, is a place to let your creative side go to work.
