kitchen cabinets occupy a large amount of space in your kitchen and so while selecting new cabinets, you need to keep in mind the size of your kitchen, the kind of kitchen you have (L-Shaped, U-Shaped, Island) and also determine the places where you want to place the cabinets. Sometimes, old cabinets can be remodeled and installed. They not only give a newer look to your kitchen, they also save a lot of money. Installing kitchen cabinets can be quite a challenging task, but if you do it properly and systematically, installing kitchen cabinets will not seem to be that difficult a task after all.
First and foremost, you need to get the following equipments together:
* Electric Drill
* Electric Screwdriver
* Drill Bits
* Tape Measure
* Screws
* Shims
* Hammer
* Clamps
* Chisel
* Hand Saw
* Pencil
* Straight edge
Once you have these equipments in place (you can find them around your house or if not, you can try searching for them at the local hardware store where they are easily available), you need to get down to the actual task of installing kitchen cabinets. And for installing kitchen cabinets, you need to follow these simple steps:
1. With a pencil and a level, draw an absolutely parallel line from corner to corner of the wall, approximately three inches above the floor. Take your measurements downwards from this line to the floor to locate the high point of the floor, and denote a line at the position. Beginning from that position, measure up 34.5 inches and pencil in a straight line from corner to corner of the wall to allocate the crown of the pedestal cabinets.
2. Commencing from the 34.5-inch line, measure up an additional 19.5 inches and denote a straight line from corner to corner of the wall to denote the base of the cabinets on the wall. Carefully indicate the size of the cabinets and the place on the wall where it is to be stationed to ascertain your design.
3. With the help of a magnet, trace the studs on the wall, and after that, using a pencil; indicate their places on top of, and no less than six inches beneath the mark drawn for the base of the wall cabinets. Pencil in neat perpendicular lines between the crown and the marks underneath to point out the core of the studs.
4. Bolt a provisional 1-by-3-support railing to the wall, bringing into line the uppermost rim of the rail with the line for the posterior rim of the wall cabinets. Fasten it by drilling 3 or 4 two-inch screws from side to side of the rail into the wall studs.
5. Fit the corner wall cabinet earliest. Pierce pilot holes all the way through the robust rear of the cabinet and its assisting rail and then in the studs of the wall. Drill the cabinet to the wall with the help of 2 screws which are stretched sufficiently to enter the stud, not less than 1.5 inches and then verify the crown for straightness and the face for level. To exact the location, retract the screws, bang shims in the rear of the cabinet at the locations of the studs. Then push the screws inside and insert quite a few extra screws into every stud for safe fastening. Then proceed to install the side cabinets.
6. After the placement of all the wall cabinets is over, fix the corner or end stand cabinet. If required, make use of shims to straighten it and lift it up to the high point of the floor, in an attempt to make its crown match with the wall’s line. Ensure that it’s entirely level and then screw it to the wall magnets.
7. To rotate a corner with pedestal cabinets, push the adjacent cabinets in position and fasten them as one. Affix a packing band if it is required to permit drawers and doors approval. If required, put shims below the cabinet and at the back of it to check for straightness.
8. Drill screws across the cabinet back and into the studs of the wall. Clip all the surplus objects from the shims by means of a pointed blade. Keep on inserting adjacent cabinets in the same way.
Follow these simple steps and you will discover that installing kitchen cabinets is indeed simple. Sure, it’ll require a lot of hard work, but at the end of it, you will always enjoy working in a kitchen that is so personalized.
