Individual Door vs. Pre-hung Door

As the name suggests, the other kind of door is just what its name sounds like. The door is merely a rectangular piece of wood, steel, or compost with no framing or hardware. To make a decision between these two differing types, you’ll need to take a look at the situation that you find yourself in.

For example, a pre-hung door is the obvious choice where there is no existing door frame or when the existing one is so damaged or warped that it needs to be replaced. Remember too, that pre-hung doors are weather tight, which makes them the better choice for an outdoor installation. Buying one that’s ready to go means that you won’t need to go through the added hassle of caulking and adjusting the frame to the door to make sure the seal is tight.

Here are some factors that might influence you to install just the door. Cost is the first one and quite often one of the most important. If you’ve got a special door that you’d like to install, then the individual door is the obvious choice here, as there is more room for variety. The basic individual door should also be given some serious consideration when you’re looking into an interior door since it generally doesn’t matter if these are weather tight or not. Remember too, that for the most part, pre-hung doors are heavy and extremely hard to manage.
