interior doors are an important part of your home. Even the cleanest home can look rundown if the interior doors are splintered and old. On the same note, getting new interior doors are a great way of giving a room an uplift of life without having to do too much of the work yourself.
There are several types of interior doors, and many are about both style and function. Panel doors are very common; they have patterns on both sides, usually rectangles, or oblong panels. The patterns vary depending on personal choice, as does color. Flush doors are smooth on both sides. Bi-fold doors are generally used for laundry rooms, closets, pantries, etc., because they are designed for large openings. Decorative doors are fairly new and are adorned with cartoon characters, art, nature scenes, or sports figures and add to the theme of a room. French doors have glass panes and allow a lot of light to come into a room. Interior sliding doors are best for closets and can be mirrored. Swinging doors are double doors that open both ways to allow easy access into each room.
There are several other door types, but these are the most common, generally speaking.
The good news is that interior doors are fairly easy to re-stain or paint over, giving the room a fresh new look. If the door is wood, repair it first before staining or painting. Remove the door from its hinges, clean it thoroughly, rinse and dry. Then tape the hinges and knobs before beginning to paint or stain. Lightly sand the door, brushing off the wood when you are done. Rinse and dry again. Prime the door, wait for that to dry, and then paint away!
If re-staining or painting a door isn’t an option (or you just have your heart set on a new door) then by all means go shopping. However, as with exterior doors, interior doors can be difficult to install so it might be better to have them installed by a professional.
doors are more than just functional, they are part of the interior design of our homes. Depending on the condition of the doors, they can either add to or take away from the beauty of each room. Whether you choose to buy a new door or repair and repaint the existing one, the new look is sure to please.
