Bathroom Interior Decorating Ideas

The bathrooms of a residence are almost always visited by guests. Consequently, a pleasant and welcoming interior decorating of the bathroom can vastly improve the impression your home makes upon your guests. Whether you have formal dinner parties or just casually hangout with friends, the look and feel of your bathroom will say a lot to your guests about how you treat your home and the standard of living condition you expect.

Since most bathrooms include tile in their interior design, the tiling work is the first place you should start thinking about in any bathroom remodel or renovation. The vast amount of variations on tile work is too extensive to cover here, but it is sufficient to say that good grout work and spacing will reduce the occurrence of mold and mildew and help maintain an overall clean appearance for the tile work. Where color is concerned, dark tiles should be used sparingly and in conjunction with lightly shaded or white tiles.

The look of the tile work should go with the color of the untiled walls. While some bathrooms have tiled walls, most will have at least one plaster wall. Wooden walls in bathrooms are generally old-fashioned, though some modern homes do incorporate wood into the bathroom, especially in luxury bathrooms that include a Jacuzzi or sauna. However, for smaller everyday bathrooms, wood panels should be confined to cupboard doors and drawers. The wall color should match the tiles. Perhaps the most popular bathroom color is blue, probably because of its association with water.

The bath mats in a bathroom may seem insignificant, but will go a long way toward completing your bathroom’s decor. There should be at least two separate small carpets in any bathroom, given that the tile or linoleum floor will be cold. One mat should go by the toilet, the other by the bath and the sink counter top. Like the walls, the mats should match the tile work.

The sink, along with the toilet and, if included, the bathtub, really set the feel for a bathroom. When choosing a tiling pattern, consider if the fixtures have a modern look or more of an old-fashioned or rustic look. Or, if you are purchasing new fixtures, be sure to plan out your tile work and paint job first.

Lastly, the towels and clothes in a bathroom are functional but also contribute significantly to the interior look of the space. Flamboyant beach towels do not belong in a respectable bathroom. As always, the color of the towels should match the paint job and the tile work.
