It’s important that you don’t use too many nails but as a general rule of thumb, fence-boards 4” thick or less will take one nail and those that are over that width generally take two nails. This design allows for great flexibility and is quite common in that depending on the placement of the boards, the fence can block both the winds and the view.
For someone that wants complete privacy, a panel fence might be the best option. These fences are accomplished by nailing boards over railings and posts. The panel fence provides for the best coverage in the sense that it blocks the view from both sides. These are the best choices for the homeowner that, for whatever reason, wants to ensure their complete privacy.
