Ancient Architecture

On the British continent, one of the more interesting architectural formations are the stone circles that are found at various points in places like England. Many of the experts on the subject tell us that these formations may have been made in homage to and orientated toward the stars.

One of the most fascinating of these stone circles can be found at St. Buryan and it has been called the Merry Maidens. It measures some 24 meters in diameter and has been called one of the best formations of it’s kind in Britain. The entire formation consists of some nineteen blocks of stone and one of the more mysterious points is the question as to how these stones got into place. Even more of a mystery is the fact that a full half kilometer away are two other stones that are quite obviously meant to be part of the formation in some way and these have been named the Pipers.

What’s important to remember here is that these, as well as all the other formations like them that dot the British landscape, are not random in the sense that they were just placed together in some haphazard way. All the experts agree that this particular work can clearly be called a piece of ancient architecture since it is very clear that their positions are planned in much the same way that the structure of a modern skyscraper is also planned.

The example above comes from the legend of the dancing maidens that were, as legend would have it, turned to stone for dancing on the Sabbath. There is another similar example in Blisland on the Bodmin Moor that has another rock formation that supposedly depicts another set of maidens who were turned to stone, again for dancing on the Sabbath.

One of the other facts about many of these circular formations is the way they seem to all influence each other in much the same way that many of our modern office buildings and high-rises do the same. There can be little doubt that these formations have most of the elements that allow them to be considered as architecture in that there is obviously an element of planning that was involved so that the stones portrayed exactly what the designers had intended in the first place.

There is even the belief in some circles that these formations were placed in exact locations where the earth emanates a certain energy that these ancient architects were marking with these stone circles.
