Print

Bathrooms, like closets, never have enough storage space. Where do you put all the items that you need access to every day? Even if you have a medicine cabinet for the morning essentials, are you forced to store your towels under the sink with your toilet paper and cleaning supplies? Adding more storage space to your bathroom can also be difficult because of the lack of general space available in the bathroom. Even if you have a small bathroom and no ability to expand or remodel, you can add more storage to your bathroom.

home improvement centers often carry many different bathroom shelving possibilities. Before your begin purchasing shelves or storage boxes, consider what you need to store in your bathroom. Do you have a large collection of bath towels or many different bottles of bath products that you want to store in your bathroom? The products we keep in our bathroom are usually small and vary in size, so you need a variety of storage possibilities. Does your bathroom have cabinets, drawers, and shelves? Add what you are missing and your increase your storage abilities immediately.

Before you start cutting holes in your wall, think about expanding the existing storage spaces that you already have. If you have a small medicine cabinet, replace it with a larger, surface-mounted cabinet. If you have a small vanity and the space for a larger vanity cabinet, install a new one. Many cabinets can be installed with only a minimal amount plumbing knowledge and you do not even need to replace the plumbing fixtures you have. Installing a new cabinet can also help you refresh a bathroom that is feeling outdated and in need of a makeover as well.

When you need to add more storage to your bathroom, make sure you take advantage of all the available wall space in your bathroom by installing shelves above the toilet, around your sink, and even in your shower. Tempered glass shelving can be added quickly to any wall, will increase your storage space, and add a new decorative touch to your bathroom. Choose a shelving product that is safe for the bathroom and is water proof. Even the most well ventilated bathroom will have moisture problems at some point. You will need to secure the shelving to your walls correctly and firmly. If you have any questions on how to secure the shelves, seek assistance at your local home improvement store.

If you do have available space in an adjoining room or an empty closet butting up to the bathroom, repurpose the space and create a new bathroom closet. You can inset a cabinet into the wall and create a new bathroom pantry that will help you store and organize everything you need in your bathroom. To complete this project you will need to cut into the wall and possibly refinish the drywall around the new bathroom cabinet. If you purchase a pre-fab cabinet, the process for installation and finishing will be easy and if you manage your time well, you could have a new bathroom cabinet in less than one day.

Spending an afternoon installing more storage space into your bathroom will help you increase the storage space of your home. It is a good idea to disconnect the water supply to your bathroom while you are installing the new storage items, you will not want to take a chance of causing leaks. But if done correctly, you will increase your storage options, reduce the clutter of your bathroom and you may even increase the value of your home.
