Do you purchase your water in gallon jugs at the grocery store? Or maybe, you are buying bottles of water wrapped in plastic each week. You may feel that the quality of the water in your home is sub par so you purchase water in order to drink quality water. However, you can take several simple actions and improve the water in your home.
If you have a well that provides your home with water, you will always need to make sure that your well and the associated equipment is in top working order. If you are building a new well, you do not take any shortcuts, follow your local regulations and build your well to the proper depth and location. It is important that you always monitor the quality of the water being sent to your home from your well. If your well becomes contaminated by rain water runoff or chemical contaminates, take the necessary actions immediately. Do not put off any maintenance your well may need, doing so could contaminate your water and the water of your neighbors and community as well.
If your water is provided by a city source and you want to improve the quality, installing a water filter is a great place to start. A home water purifier or filter will remove impurities and some of the unwanted chemical elements that can be found in your water. A water purifier usually consists of finer and finer barriers that the water must pass through. Usually home water purifiers will start with a sand filter to catch all large debris and force the water through two or three different water filters which allow you to have better tasting water in the end. You can install a water purifier outside your home and provide all water sources in your home with cleaner and higher quality water.

A water filter can be as easy as a charcoal filter attached to your faucet or installed in a stand alone water pitcher. While water filters are usually not as sophisticated as a water purifier, water filters are usually more cost effective and normally do not require complex installation. Depending on the type of water filter, you may detect a slight change in the flavor of the water and some people may find the change in taste unpalatable. If you are using a water filter, and find you do not like the taste of the water, try a different brand or design of filter before giving up on the idea of improving the water quality in your house.
If you do decide that purchasing water is the best option due to the quality of your water, look for bottled water that provides the least amount of packaging and produces a quality of water that you enjoy.
