All About Roofing

Like everything else, the business of roofing has undergone some major changes in the last few years. Where there’s a will to do it, people have developed new ways to put a roof on their home. The asphalt shingle is still one of the more popular choices, but there are several other styles of roofs that use different materials for what are quite often more exotic effects.

One of these is the copper roof.  Copper is considered one of the best roofing products available at the very top of the premium materials list. Perhaps the biggest advantage to the copper roof is the fact that it is maintenance free. Copper is not a new material in the roofing world, nor is it a secret either. It’s been used for thousands of years and some of its more appealing characteristics are its fabulous earthquake and wind resistance.

Spanish Tile Roofing is every bit as exotic as copper. It’s available in a variety of colors and because there is a continuous airflow under these tiles after they’re installed, and the cooling effect is greatly enhanced.  Just like the copper roofs, these are virtually maintenance free as well and they’ve even been designed to wash clean in the rain. Other advantages of Spanish Tile Roofing include: the screws used exclusively on this type of roof are four times as rust resistant than industry standards demand. It also bears mention here that while these roofs will last longer and generally have less problems that the conventional asphalt roofs, they are more expensive as well.

Then there’s a simpler model that will last for just as long. Fully interlocking steel roofing usually is completely weather tight with no exposed fasteners. Most of the manufacturers and installers fit all the pieces for each roof individually—that’s to say that the nature of the pieces that will fit needs to be measured and are unique for each roof since no two are exactly the same. The steel roof is the simple solution in more ways than one. Because these roofs require no special work that needs to be done before installation, there is less structural cost when the home owner selects this kind of roof.

Another option is the slate roof where the slabs have been engineered to match the natural color of slate as closely as possible. What each of these styles will cost can be estimated by using a formula that you can get from a manufacturer on the Internet. These estimates are invaluable since they can give the homeowner a good idea of what the project will cost.
